We, the Manitoba Brain Injury Association (MBIA), are your ally during this difficult time. We began as a group of volunteers who came together to share personal experiences and knowledge of the effects of brain injuries with those experiencing similar situations. This is a guiding principal for the services we offer.
Our mission is to offer help and hope to individuals and families living with the effects of brain injury through direct services, education and advocacy; to promote independent living and a sense of community among those affected; and to educate all Manitobans towards the prevention of acquired brain injury.
We provide support services to individuals with brain injuries as well as their families through support group meetings, peer interaction, as well as social and recreational programs.
We provide education services for our members, as well as for the public, professional organizations and private industry about the causes andeffects of brain injury. Members of the MBIA have access to library resources offered by The Society for Manitobans with Disabilities. Multimedia resources include books, videos, and computer programs that cover a wide range of topics including prevention, rehabilitation and recovery tools, and resources for caregivers. Through education, we hope to promote awareness of the unique needs of people living with the effects of brain injury.
We are also an advocate for our members. We educate and consult with government agencies, health services and rehabilitation centres, and funding agencies about issues related to brain injuries including prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and long-term needs and issues faced by individuals living with brain injuries and their families.
